4H trading range

A 4H trading range is a price zone with an upper and a lower boundary on the 4-hour timeframe. In the FocusProfit methodology, 4H is the optimal timeframe for our swing approach to map structure in continuation of the bias set by higher timeframes (monthly, weekly, daily) — not the only or a universal unit of analysis. Structure can be built on any timeframe; the choice depends on style, and the Trade Model indicator maps it on any timeframe, market, and instrument. The boundaries form at the moment the range begins, on the close of the candle that initiates a new structure, and remain fixed until the next range appears.

Inside the range, price seeks liquidity at zones of interest, forms reactions at local extremes, develops corrections, and retests levels. The boundaries act as priority targets: a bounce from the lower one or a rejection from the upper. A close beyond a boundary on the opposite side starts a new range. This often happens at the edge of the trading sessions, where European and US liquidity meet.

This is where two FocusProfit products meet and complement each other. The structure and the ranges themselves are built by the Trade Model indicator, while the bias — the overall direction from the higher timeframes — is provided by the analytics: market reviews by instrument. Without an understanding of the overall bias, the range markup is less well-argued, so the pairing of "analytics for context + indicator for structure" is stronger than either tool alone. The indicator's MTF panel helps keep this pairing on one screen, showing the direction of the higher timeframes next to the working structure.

Each range is tracked cohort-style — it belongs to the month it formed in, which makes it possible to follow the history and repetitive logic of structure over distance. When a new 4-hour candle opens a range, the Trade Model indicator alerts in Telegram: the instrument, structural direction, boundaries, and formation time — not a trade command, but an entry point for analysis.
