The idea share counts each closed idea once. The range share counts completed ranges, so an idea enters it with the weight of its completed ranges for the month — from zero to several — whether or not the idea itself is closed. Ideas still open and ranges still in progress count in neither share.

Defining the idea is harder than following it: the idea share shows how often the thesis proved right, while the range share shows how precisely an already accepted thesis was followed through.
